Mission Statement

The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum uses the history and lessons of the Holocaust to reject hatred, promote understanding, and inspire change.

Impact

The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum is the only Museum of its kind in Missouri and the St. Louis metropolitan area, making it a key resource for the community. Through tours of its permanent Holocaust exhibition, public programs, special exhibitions, and educational curriculum, the Museum seeks to educate visitors of all ages about the Holocaust. Furthermore, the Museum maintains the one-of-a-kind Impact Lab, a highly interactive space where visitors will consider the lessons of the Holocaust and how they can apply them in their daily lives. In the Impact Lab, participants learn about genocides and hate crimes, how hate can spiral into violence and genocide, and what they can do to become an Active Ally. Since the Museum’s reopening in November 2022, it has engaged with over 30,000 visitors.

The impact of Dana Brown Charitable Trust grants began with our capital campaign award in 2020. In 2022, we received a grant for our Media Literacy project to support 40% of the expected student visitors who come from lower-income middle and high schools in defined counties in Missouri and Illinois (defined as free or reduced lunch schools), approximately 10,000 of 15,000 students were expected during our opening year. With a few delays in the Impact Lab opening, the grant was extended and the most significant public value of this grant was the opportunity presented through the Holocaust Education Mandate through the state of Missouri. This created an immediate need for schools to engage with the Museum and the Dana Brown-funded programming.
